One Product decision

Public N°1 DE CHANEL context

CHANEL didn't add a natural ingredient. It made one its proof.

N°1 was the House's largest beauty launch in a decade: a return to essentials, built on a single conviction and a single flower.

  • 19 years

of CHANEL Research on its own red camellia.

  • Protocatechuic acid

the molecule isolated from it, a polyphenol antioxidant.

  • +67% cell vitality

in-vitro, targeting senescence, studied with the University of Vienna.

  • 76% of the plant

    petals, seeds, yeast. Nothing wasted.

  • First refillable

the cream jar, with a tool carved from camellia seed husks.

N°1 DE CHANEL Revitalizing Serum set against a red camellia.

The move was not clean beauty. It was making naturality legitimate at CHANEL's level: proven by science, carried by a House code.

The camellia, its research and the line's public strategy belong to CHANEL. Shown here as context for the work.

Product judgment

Intelligence could frame the opportunity.
It could not decide the answer.

  • Scientifically credible
  • Regulatorily viable
  • Sensorially distinctive
  • Commercially coherent
  • Legitimate for the House
N°1 DE CHANEL, radiance lived on the skin.

The market creates demand.

The House decides which demand deserves an answer.

N°1 stayed an anti-ageing line, led by vitality and the first signs of ageing.

The standard I carried forward
  1. 01

A House code earns its place when it does Product work.

  2. 02

Science and desire resolve in the same object.

  3. 03

The market creates demand. The House decides which demand deserves an answer.

Product is where the House becomes true.
